New York –
In response to statements from Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump that, if elected, he would bar all Muslims from entering the United States, Stosh Cotler, CEO of Bend the Arc Jewish Action issued the following statement:

“Donald Trump entered this campaign as a reality TV joke but is now running as a dangerous extremist.

“This hateful rhetoric is unacceptable and all Americans of conscience should denounce it unequivocally. As American Jews, we know all too well what can happen when people are barred entry to a country because of their religion. Informed by our history and strengthened by our values, including a commitment to religious freedom, we will continue to hold figures like Mr. Trump accountable for their hateful rhetoric.”

Bend the Arc has been a leading voice in the Jewish community in combating Islamophobia, partnering with Muslim-American faith organizations to speak out against attacks on the Muslim community and supporting lawsuits fighting discrimination. In 2013, members of Bend the Arc joined the Muslim Public Affairs Council in a joint day of fasting in support of comprehensive immigration reform.
